We've been planning this for a year. No joke. I am not sure what we will do now that we don't have a birthday party to plan. I have been fearful. Zack's expectations were so high I wasn't sure I would be able to meet them. But in the end all we needed was a lot of crepe paper, plenty of balloons and 5 layers of cake to satisfy him.
It's a good thing I married Matt because his crepe paper skills are second to none. It will always be a party in our basement because we'll probably just keep this up until we finish the basement or I spend enough time down there for it to bug me.

Two of Zack's favorite things: pizza and picnics.

Did you notice all the girls. Zack loves the ladies & they love him. More than one of these girls has kissed him. I'm not naming names.
A pinata of course.

A pinata melt down of course:

Presents!

The cake was the most worrisome part of the day. Monday night he came to me with this cake design. I knew I was in trouble.

While he and Matt decorated the basement I worked on the cake. I have baked 4 cakes this week--two from scratch, thank you very much. One we used on his actual birthday, and 3 for the party. He wanted it to be all pink and fancy. I couldn't bring myself to do that and took a chance on something a little more whimsical. (Which is also a good excuse for the fact that it leans. It was totally on purpose-part of the whimsy!) Thankfully there was just enough pink on it to make him happy.

Just so you can see how big (and crooked) this baby was

I am most proud of how well it sliced. I don't think the 4 and 5 year-olds appreciated their five layers of sliced cake perfection. And only two were able to eat it all.

I'm glad we do these every other year. It might take me that long just to clean it all up.
